I was diagnosed with Major Mood Disorder aka Depression in May 2015. This blog serves as my online Thought Diary – a medium to release negative energy, monitor feelings and record my journey towards recovery. As long as I write, we will know that I still have a chance to win this battle. It is when I don’t write anymore that perhaps… erm, okay, let’s not go there.
Depression is a mental illness that tends to go unnoticed and is highly misunderstood by society. Each person with depression (or any mental illness for the matter) has it differently, making all our experiences mutually exclusive. I am publishing my words online because I found comfort in knowledge, and I found hope in reading other people’s experiences. I soon realised I’m not alone, and that there are (many) ways to manage my illness. While there isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” remedy or coping strategy, any technique is worth a try. Though it is not the primary objective to inspire, if this blog helps you, then good for you.
If you’re suffering from any kind of mental illness, know that you are not alone. Know that you matter, you are important and what you are going through is real. You can’t quite see it, but surely can feel it. And if you can read this, it means you still can save yourself. You are your own hero, and the rest of us are cheering you on. I mean it. Keep Faith, hold on to every bit of Hope you find. It’s in you.
It will take a lot of time, effort and support to get through this journey. Let’s help each other up. Not everyone will understand nor empathise, so when you found those rare gems who do, keep ’em close and let them in. You’ll need them when you least deserve it.
We can do this!
